Sirens scream their
arrival amidst the cheers and steadily increasing tempo of
exhilarated fans; a super-charged mass of white, purple and gold
paying homage to what represents the heart and soul of the spirit of
LSU. The Golden
Ban from Tiger Land turns the corner at the top of the hill, bathed
in the misty glow of Autumnal south Louisiana light, a jewel like
embodiment of order and perfection, and a testament to the glories
potential of human achievement, refined through competition and
harmonized through cooperation.
They dutifully constrain any outward
expression of growing anticipation or inclination to break ranks and
abandon themselves into the adoring mass; yet not missing a step or
a beat, continue their time honored march under the stately oaks and
“down the hill.” Tiger stadium looms on high, beckons, and welcomes
its children. For
those who truly celebrate the spirit of righteous competition, who
acknowledge and accept both victory and defeat as integral opposites
in the perfecting of our character, wherein, measuring ourselves in
the battle, respect is earned and not expected, and true empathy and
compassion are bestowed in honor of all worthy competitors who
bravely enter the arena and give their all...for those hearty
warriors...the marchers halt, and pause...the flags are raised high
in salute and echoed in the mass of clinched fists and arms
stretched upward, chill bumps erupt and that deep, mesmerizing,
familiar harmony of ‘Hold that Tiger’ envelopes the rapturous throng
and permeates the air over and above the tens of thousands who
answer the call to potential glory.
Such magnificent splendor, of the
spirit and manifest in the flesh, that ancient Rome could not boast.
May we love it, live it, savor it, and above all use it as a joyous
stepping-stone on our personal journey upward. God speed us on our
path.
